Another ACL post coming your way! With the brevity of some clinical rotations, there's a chance you'll make it through PT school without following a patient through their entire rehabilitation following ACL reconstruction. This can be frustrating, due to the frequency of their occurrence, especially if you are interested in sports PT. For the past 8 or 9 weeks, Mike Henkelman has been documenting the week-by-week progress of a high school soccer player's rehab. He explains his reasoning for exercise choices and why/when to progress the patient. Additionally, he has been extremely interactive with anyone commenting after each week's post. This is an excellent opportunity to follow the progression of an athlete through ACL rehab from start to finish. Something to note is that this rehab protocol may seem a little more conservative than what we have documented before, but it is always important to communicate with the surgeon and adhere to any additional precautions based on the surgery. For example, this patient also had a meniscal repair, requiring NWB for a couple weeks and, thus, delaying rehab progression. Thanks for the forum, Mike, and keep up the great work!
