There is no doubt that single leg strength and control is vital for any athlete. Especially when recovering from any lower body injury and returning to sport, the athlete must have the control and strength for their sport. But how many of us test this? For me, the single leg step down, the lunge with arm drivers, and single leg hip bridge are my tests. However, always expanding the knowledge base is important in this field. Below are the single leg eval tests that the Lakers Head Strength coach performs. Check it out. - Brian

Pain and explaining pain to patients can be a tricky thing. Especially when our patients present with a altered movement pattern. I often see a ton of postural faults in both my active population and my athletes. We see this all the time. People present in altered positions but the body has become so used to this position that it becomes the new norm. This is a problem that often needed correcting which is why its so difficult to teach motor control to patients. Still though, the key is to be able to get into the right position. Whether its my manual therapy or exercise, that new position must be obtained prior to re-teaching the body how to keep the "right" position. If an athlete has a restriction, often it is not a true restriction but instead the autonomic system holding a bad position. We can teach our patients to get out of this position and provide instant changes. Below is a great short clip by Charlie Weingroff who talks about some of these things.... - Brian
