How do you measure ankle DF? Do you have them supine, knee extension and knee flexion? Thats great but what happens when they are in a weight bearing position?
The half kneeling DF test is a fantastic way to see DF deficits while also seeing what happens at the midfoot. Often you will see changes in DF, supination/pronation, and great toe extension or flexion. Next time your evaluating someone with LE problems and you notice restrictions in a functional squat for example, try out this test. It will help you tease out where the primary deficit is coming from.
Dr. E did a nice job of breaking down how to perform the test and some of the common reasons for restrictions. See his post here for more information!
