![]() With all the advances in technology and results now society, strength and conditioning continues to evolve. Tools like GPS data, tendo units, heart rate monitors, and more continue to gain popularity among athletes. Whatever will give the athlete an edge will be studied and implemented. But is there a clear cut tool for us to use? How can we monitor intensity most efficiently? This article written by Patrick Ward makes the argument for using both internal and external monitoring. He explains the benefits to both as well as why using both can be beneficial together. Internal vs external monitoring with athletes is important and can be useful in rehabilitation as well. I think that with technology getting better and the acceptable use of these tools in sports, we can begin to implement them more and more into rehabilitation of athletes. Maybe using these tools can help us begin to tackle the fatigue component in athletic rehab? Time will tell. What do you think? Do you use internal or external monitoring when programming? How about in the rehabilitation setting? Where do you see this idea going in the future?
