![]() For those of you living under a rock, let me introduce you to Charlie Weingroff. He is a physical therapist, athletic trainer. and strength coach. He is also the former 76er's strength coach. His articles are great and very thought provoking. While I am only going to discuss one here today, I encourage you to read many of them. Although the above title sounds like its about ACL only, in this article Charlie discusses everything from deceleration to physical preparedness, to single leg hopping. What is so great about his answers is the reasoning behind why he does things the way he does. He is very movement oriented and appreciates the neuromuscular component to a greater extent than most do. I particularly like how he explains that deceleration training should not just consist of slow eccentrics but rather body balance, tone, and random practice. More importantly, he emphasizes how important it is to determine what part of deceleration needs to be worked. Ask yourself: How specific are you being in your training and are you truly appreciating the neuromuscular system with your rehab & training? Or as coined by Weingroff: Training=Rehab, Rehab=Training. - Brian
