Purpose: To assess the mobility of the sacroiliac joint.
Test Position: Supine.
Performing the Test: The examiner places his/her hands on each ASIS, while maintaining his/her body over the hands. Push inward at a 45 degree angle on both to engage the tissue. While maintaining the the position on one side, on the opposite side continue to overpress in order to determine the mobility of the joint. Repeat on the opposite side. The test is positive if less motion is noted on one side compared to the other.
Diagnostic Accuracy: Unknown.
Importance of Test: By applying a force at the ASIS in a 45 degree angle, the examiner is creating a shearing force that analyzes how much motion is available at the SI joint.
Note: tests should only be performed by a properly trained health care practitioner.
